"My professional capacity as a solicitor is not to advise people on the financial options best suited to them, but to go through in detail the legalities of any financial contract which they choose to undertake. For this reason I ensured that I was well-versed in the Seniors Money Lifetime Loan prior to advising any of my clients on the issue. In reading up on the equity release market itself I learned that the confusion surrounding this sector is understandable – there are different types of equity release and within that the providers offer different types of products.
To me, the Seniors Money Lifetime Loan appears to be the best on the market – all correspondence, brochures etc. were easy to understand and the costs and legalities involved were explained clearly i.e. there were no hidden “technicalities” which I needed to uncover, which is something you find so often in my profession. As I am not a financial adviser I would not recommend one product over another but I would ensure that my clients are aware of the different options available to them and the positives & negatives of each.
In particular, the following questions are important:
• Does the client wish to continue to own their property?
• Has the client sought independent financial advice, and have they discussed their intentions with family members?
• Are they absolutely sure that their circumstances will not change and that they will never want to repay early or indeed borrow more later?
It must be noted that it is important for a person considering this form of finance not to borrow more than they actually need at the time, as they will end up paying interest on the money drawn down. Seniors Money allows a phased drawdown facility called an Express Top Up, which allows periodic draw downs whenever the client needs to up to their approved limit.
Working with Seniors Money is both efficient and pleasant – the legal process itself is not at all time-consuming and promptness is most definitely a virtue of the Seniors Money team.
In addition, the job satisfaction aspect of this has also come into play - I have been advising my senior clients on equity release for over a year now, and have seen and heard about their experiences directly, the positive outcomes and improvements in their lifestyle. Providing independent legal advice to seniors has proved to be very rewarding.

"As a solicitor I know giving legal advice is not a case of just following instructions. It entails getting to know your client and their circumstances and most importantly making a judgement based on all the information provided and collected which is obviously different in every circumstance.
When giving independent legal advice to clients seeking to take out a Seniors Money Lifetime Loan, I find that my clients are very well informed about the product and have considered their other options before coming to see us. Seniors Money always ensures that I have the same information provided to me before the appointment and phones to see if I have any questions. I have also been in the position where I can telephone them and get somebody immediately to answer any queries that I will have while clients are in attendance with me, which is of great assistance. Being well informed and prepared for the appointment definitely makes the process easier and allows me to spend more time with my client ensuring they understand all the documentation presented"
